Accelerated Reader
The Accelerated Reader program is one of the most successful interventions our school uses to improve the reading skills of our students. Each student is administered the STAR Early Literacy or STAR computerized reading assessment which determines his/her reading level. Next, students read books in their reading ranges which promotes optimal reading growth. Then, students take an Accelerated Reader quiz which will generate reports for teachers, students, and parents to monitor and intervene if needed. Each book for which there is an Accelerated Reading practice quiz has a point value based on its readability and length. After a student takes a quiz, he/she receives points based on the book’s point value and how well he/she did on the quiz. Points measure reading practice-a summary of quantity, quality, and difficulty level. Our Information Center has over 9,000 quizzes to match books to readers at every level.
